My best friend

It's currently 11:25 PM in Brisbane and in 35 minutes, it'll be Nicole's 21st birthday.

I met Nicole on the first day of high school eight years ago and it's been the best eight years since then. She is one of the most important people in my life and my heart literally aches to think about how life would be if I'd never met her. Over the time that I've known her, she's become so much more than just a best friend. She's actually more like a sister to me. We went through awkward phases in high school together, made mistakes together, discovered who we are as people together and have helped each other along every step of the way.

Seeing who she was in grade eight and seeing her now makes me so proud of the beautiful young woman she's become. And I know I sound like her mum rn but my heart is literally bursting with love. Although just as lovable as she was back then, she's become so much more confident in herself and in her abilities, but is every bit as humble as she was before.

I never thought that I'd be able to find someone I can be so myself around and who is just as weird as I am. Someone who makes me laugh at literally everything and someone who can make me enjoy things I dislike. She's got such a free spirit but such as deep soul and is beautiful in every way :')

I'm so sad that she's not in Brisbane atm so that we can celebrate together but for now this post is what I can do.

Us at grade 10 camp!
New Zealand | The first of many overseas trips I hope to go on with her

2014
I think that 2014 was the biggest year of growth for the both of us. We were both quite sheltered throughout high school and so going into uni gave us so much more freedom and we experienced so many new things. We made so many new friends and although we made different friends and studied different courses, we managed to stay close, and are definitely closer than ever.

Look how young she looks!!!

2015
Literally one of the weirdest years of our lives. Like an actual rollercoaster of emotions. Thanks for always listening to me and for always somehow experiencing the same problems I do at the same time as me so we can laugh and cry about it together and work through them.
At our seven year friendiversary!!

Gigs and concerts

Since we got our driving licences just before uni started, we were able to get out and finally see some live music!! It's one of my favourite things to do with her. Arctic Monkeys was the first act we saw together and since then, some of the highlights have been going to Splendour in the Grass this year and last, The Rubens, SAFIA and Jarryd James x Meg Mac (and going to see some of the bands multiple times as well!!)

We've formed so many traditions of the years but one of my favourites is definitely going to Baskin Robbins for an ice cream every time she sleeps over.

Melbourne
At the end of 2015, we took a trip to Melbourne together (with my two sisters) and it was one of the best trips I've ever taken. Back in Brisbane, she stays over so often that there are literally no secrets and surprises anymore when it comes to each other. And it really helps to travel with someone who I want to spend all my time with anyway.

During the first half of 2016, I went on exchange to Dublin. I somehow made it back home alive and being away made me appreciate her 10000x more than I already did before. Coming back home and seeing her for the first time was the best thing ever. It actually felt like no time had passed and I guess that's just one of the signs of a good friendship -- we're both able to grow without each other but life's just better when she's there.

We went to see the Rubens the day after I came back to Brisbane after exchange and went to get late night pizza afterwards mmmm

Thank you for everything. I don't know where I'd be without you.
This post doesn't even begin to describe what you are like and how much I appreciate you.
Happy 21st birthday!
